Parma ham or prosciutto crudo is, for me, so Italian. Perhaps because my introduction to Parma ham was from my mother-in-law who was Italian. She was actually from Sardinia rather than from the Italian mainland. Parma, on the other hand, is a city in the northern Italian region of Emilia-Romagna famous for its architecture, music, art and prosciutto. But, Parma Italy has a lot more to offer that its famous ham.

Where to eat in Parma

When most people think about the best Italian food, the word simplicity immediately pops into mind.

Much of Italy’s best cuisine starts with expertly cooked food, usually pasta, well dressed with a simple elementally constructed sauce made from the finest ingredients. The flavours are clean, clear and true.

Must-Do Food Tour for foodies

It’s 9.15 am and the first batches of Parmigiano Reggiano are underway.  The milk trucks have already made one of two deliveries that they will do today.   It’s all happening, and I’m excited to be here doing the Parmigiano Reggiano Food Tour in Parma Italy.

Must do Food Tour

When I knew we were going to be near Parma, it quickly got locked into our itinerary.  Parma is a beautiful town, but we had one primary goal.  We wanted to do a food tour.  Now, food tours are plentiful, especially in Italy

Best Food Tour in Parma

The Three Kings Tour, run by Parma Food n Wine Tours, is one of a few food tours in Parma Italy.  It took me on a journey of intense food pleasure over an entire day.  Food is an integral part of travel for me. It’s not about food for food’s sake, or just to appease a growling stomach. It’s about learning how food is eaten in a country, how it’s cooked, and how it differs from region to region.

Best Food Tour of Parma

It’s about trying new flavours and new foods that sometimes leave a lifelong impression on me. Food tours and cooking classes have therefore become a key part of my travels.

Foodies need to visit Parma Italy

The Almost Local Food Tour Parma (Italy) with Food Valley is absolutely one of the best city walking tours I’ve ever taken. I cannot recommend Palazzo Dalla Rosa Prati Hotel enough. It is a beautiful, historic and memorable place to stay to explore Parma and the surrounding region.

Foodie Need to Visit Parma

After leaving Ferrara, once we’d been given the coppia bread making tour, Mum and I jumped on the autostrada for Parma.

We were graciously hosted by the Emilia Romagna Region Tourist Board at Palazzo Dalla Rosa Prati and an Almost Local walking tour, All opinions are my own

It was only a one and a half hour drive, but it was almost painful to drive past signs for Bologna and Modena without stopping! This is the problem with traveling in Europe: everything is close and you simply cannot go everywhere.

Famous Parma Restaurant

Who doesn’t love Italian food?

It’s rich, delicious, soul-comforting, and somehow consumed by the vast majority of Italians WITHOUT an obesity epidemic. Even when most meals include AT LEAST one pasta course.

(HOW???)

Back on my first trip to Italy back in October, I was astounded not only by how different true Italian food was but also by how healthy the Italians were who eat it on a daily basis.

Plate of Parma Ham

My deepest foodie wish proved to be true! You CAN eat pasta everyday without ballooning up like Veruca Salt in Willy Wonka.

I’ve learned a lot of things on my travels these last few years but this one was truly a revelation!

And when I think of the BEST pasta I had on my entire trip, I instantly think of…

An Art and Wellness Getaway

Parma is mostly known for ham and parmesan which, as you might have guessed, aren’t exactly my cup of tea. To be perfectly frank, I didn’t quite know what to expect from Parma, and I ended up being pleasantly surprised. And what better feeling is there than discovering activities, sights and food that are all in line with who you are and what you love!

Wellness Getaway Parma

Parma turned out to be an unexpected little haven of health and vegan food – the art part obviously didn’t come as a surprise, but contributed to a lovely getaway I can’t recommend enough. Here is what I got up to.
